Holy Cow! Amazing yellow mile! I'm sure I have knitted/crocheted enough over the years to cover another few miles! Glad you shared the pics. Wonder what will be next?

Man (humankind) does not live by bread alone...

ART is not a luxury for only the rich.

all the scarves and hats, for all the worlds poor, doesn't meet all their needs.

Generosity of spirit is just as important as a warm hat.

i would guess, a good 50% of the people involved in knitting segments, are working poor.. (they have enough to get by, but not much more) and while Lion Brand made a huge contribution of yarn, they provide less than 1/2 by weight. the project was collaborative--I gained way more than i gave.

and nothing that changes your way of thinking (and this project did--in ways i didn't expect!) is a waste.

Sue Says: The knitted mile was a waste of yarn, but it was a fun thing. So we can have knitted fun once in awhile.

While the knitted mile is interesting in concept, as one who's day job consists of working with low income children & families, I see it as a sad waste of resources. We have some wonderful local knitting groups that knit hats & mittens for our children & families. Some years, the supply they send us is gone in 4-6 weeks, sometimes it last longer, rarely has it lasted as long as we need it to.
I don't want to think about how many hats or pairs of mittens all that yarn could have made.

Hello Lionbrand Notebook

Thanks so very much for always being there to answer and/or solve my knitting, crocheting puzzles...and for making some absolutely perfect yarns and threads...and for providing FREE patterns that are easy to follow.

And now for bringing thread/yarn/knitters/crocheters/crafters together.

Hello, Mr. B and Zontee:

It's a joy to see you here and to listen to your podcasts. I especially enjoyed the 'casts relating to Ms White, who certainly comes across as a delightful and humane person.

I am a satisfied user of your products, and it is great to know that I can really respect and like the people behind the product.

Please keep up the great work!

Regarding the "Knitted Mile" article, all I can say is, what a waste of good yarn! I scrimp and save in order to buy it, as things are tough for me right now, and to read an article like this where people feel that they have to waste a resource in order to make a "statement" really bothers me. They could have used that yarn to make something to keep someone in need warm, but instead they lay it out on a road. As if anyone cares what they think, anyway -- let's get real, ladies. This "statement" you've tried to make states more about you than what you're trying to get across.
