ilove the fact that something that may seem as a waste of time to some proves to be so beneficial to those who love it and the fact that there has been studies to back this up is just great. so now when someone makes a an unplesent comment on knitting i will simply reply Iam inproving my brain.

I have always said that when I crochet it actually FEELS good , physically, in my brain. I know it sounds wierd, but I get a physically pleasing sensasion when I crochet and I am addicted to it and do it as long as my hands allow!

I looooove this story! I'm always so amused to hear the surprise of Pre-stitchers (people who have as yet resisted taking up knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, etc.), that "Granny"'s hobby has any value or relevance in today's world. I always want to share my love of needlecrafts with anyone who will listen.
A little anecdote: I took my lunch to work in a bag I crocheted out of recycled "plarn" (old grocery-store shopping bags"). A co-worker was curious, and very interested in hearing how I made it, but then scoffed: "You have waaaay too much time on your hands." I answered, "Do you watch the Red Sox on TV?" He answered: "He**, yeah!", and I replied, "So do I, and what do you have to show for all those hours?".......'Nuff said...........

Wow!!This is great news.

I have started back up with knitting and crocheting last year and now I'm doing it everyday to relieve stress, pain, and anxiety. It really works, plus it makes me feel good to finish a project. It also helps my creativeity when I feel I'm starving myself because I can't express myself. Expression is in the garment/item made, especially when given as a gift. I've notice that people seem to enjoy more today, a handmade item given as a gift.

I'm in my 50's and now I have a bigger excuse to knit and crochet since studies now have prove that this is good for our brain as well as a stress releiver. 30-50% decrease in memory loss is amazing. I learned the older one gets the more active one should get in doing activities to promote brain activity in helping neurons build synapses. Studyies have shown new pathways are actually build around old synapses that are dead.

Now we can add knitting/crochet to the list of games, crossword, and other activites that help our brain.

Knitting and crocheting are definitely good stress relievers and stimulate thinking. There is always something to learn.

You are so right, crocheting is good for my 60 year old brain. I have 3 new grandchildren and am really anxious to make them sweaters. Tired of making toys. Thanks for your site.
