Each year Pantone, the leading color authority, announces the hottest shade of the year. The big color for 2013 is Emerald, a rich, cool shade of green. In the words of Pantone, Emerald is “Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.” Personally, I love how serene and calming this shade is, and I can’t wait to incorporate it into my yarncrafting! Want more Emerald in your crafting, too? Here are our favorite Emerald yarns for the coming year.
Left to right: Hometown USA in Grand Rapids Green, Homespun in Pesto, Jiffy in Country Green, and Martha Stewart Crafts Alpaca Blend in Meadow Green.
What do you think of this trend? Will you be using Emerald in your yarncrafting projects this year?

Sorry, but this isn’t news. I read about this several months ago. By the way, none of those colors are emerald, which is a deep rich gemtone. The colors above are just different greens, none of them are very attractive. Last year the color was tangerine, but I don’t recall any big rush to buy orange yarn.
I don’t choose my colors by someone else’s opinions. I pick what I like, and what suits the project and/or person I’m making it for.

You forgot my favorite green from Lion yarns… Holiday Homespun Evergreen. I wish they’d bring back the richer brighter greens of true emerald or kelly green. The trend seems to be toward muted colors that are more olive.

None of these are Emerald. Emerald is brighter, more of a jewel shade of Kelly green. I don’t like any of the above colors.
