Now that you’ve started your project, why not connect with others locally? A charity group is a great way to share your love of crafting and keep each other motivated.
First, find out if there is a local chapter of your charity. There may also be a local group that generally crafts for any charity. Use your charity’s website or the Lion Brand Charity Connection to search for such meetings.
If no local groups already exist, make your own! Invite friends and relatives to join you at a set time and location. Many groups meet in casual locations, such as a member’s house or a coffee shop. You may also consider contacting local community centers or churches to see if you can use a meeting space, especially if you need to accommodate a larger number of people.
The most important part of crafting with a group is staying positive and motivated. Bring in your finished items, and ask others to do the same. Viewing your collective work acts as a reinforcement of your progress.

I have almost completed my first washcloth for the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. We pack these boxes every year at our church. They are sent all over the world to needy children. I’ve always wanted to include handmade items so now’s my chance. I pledged to make 6 so I’m on my way. We are going on vacation tomorrow so I’ll have lots of time riding in the car or sitting at the cabin to stitch away. Thanks so much for motivating me to get busy and quit talking about doing something for charity.

I started my first scarf on the 25th for crafty angels. Today hid the threads, yucky, but the ready to go pile is growing. :]

The lady from my local Christ Child Society chapter came and picked up the 3 layette sets that I already had made. I am now working on my 4th set for them. Have the sweater completed and am now knitting the gauge to see if the yarn is going to work for the booties or not. It’s a great feeling to know you are doing your part to help someone who’s needs are great.

Baby things are my favorite items to make. They are so cute. Although I have committed to making scarfs I know I will be sneaking in a tini hat here and there. LOL

I am halfway finished with my first square vest for the knit-a-square project. I bought several colorways in worsted weight to add 3 or 4 of these to my growing squares collection. And they are fun to make in the multicolored print yarns!

I have finished 2 child sweaters for Guideposts sweaters for kids. i crocheted both woth homespun. Yhry turned out beautifully. I hope to complete 2 more before sending them oof to Guideposts. I love to do chrity work.

My mother just finished her first Afghan- the 5 1/2 hour pattern (which seemed to be more like 5 1/2 days !) We will be dropping this off to the AHRC which has a home for autistic children. I am half done with my baby Afghan and am set with another ‘Pound of Love’ for my second.

I created a knit, crochet & loom knit ministry group at my church last year with great success called Yarn Blessings. I wanted to create a group that was a natural extension to the crafting we were already doing for charities related to our church. So far we make prayer shawls, baby blankets, and scarves and hats for winter giving. We meet twice a month and work on either personal projects or ones for giving.
Starting your own group is pretty simple. I put feelers out for interest and then just found a time to meet and hoped I wouldn’t be the only one sitting at the table that night. Our first gathering we had 6-8 women. Yarn donations have also started coming in as more people become aware that we exist. Otherwise we buy our own yarn.
I am finishing up some crocheted wash clothes and a lovely navy loom knit prayer shawl. I am just getting back into the swing of things after having my 2nd baby in June.

I’m afraid the baby hat and booties for the baby sweater I just finished will be put on hold because I went to the LYS and seen a cute sweater that came with the pattern, yarn and buttons altogether. Can’t resist starting something new!

This is a lovely idea. Joining communities such as this is a fun way to enhance or crafting skills at the same time be able to share your crafts to people. I think it’s great way to pick up new crafting ideas.

I have finished 20 baby hats. I just dropped them of this morning on my in to town at the local hospital. I also finished a baby blanket, sweater and booties which was dropped of at the local homeless shelter for a young new mother. Started a scarf for a friend so I will working on that so I can have it completed by her birthday.
