Working With Superwash Merino

Any “wool is scratchy” notions that might have crawled into your head should be tossed out right now. Wool absolutely does not have to be scratchy and Superwash Merino is proof. This 4-ply yarn is bouncy and squishable and wearing it against your skin will be a pleasure, not a punishment.

Choosing a Pattern

LB Collection Superwash Merino will lend itself to a wide array of patterns to both knit and crochet. Because it is a soft and squishy yarn you will enjoy working it into garments and accessories that will be worn against the skin. It’s DK weight (CYC standard size “3”), which makes it good for items like hats, scarves, cowls, tops, gloves, and shawls.

There are mixed feelings about using any kind of wool for babies. However, if you like the idea of working up something special for a little one (perhaps an heirloom blanket?), Superwash Merino could be a good choice. It is machine washable (on cool), so parents can put items in the washer, but things that will see heavy wear should be left for another yarn.

Yarn Details

LB Collection Superwash Merino is (no surprise here) a 100% superwash merino yarn. It comes in a 3.5 ounce (100 gram) ball with 306 yards (280 meters). Following the yarn weight standards of the Craft Yarn Council, this is a #3 Light/DK weight.

This yarn has been treated to be superwash. This translates to easier care for your items. While tossing it into the washer and dryer with adjusting some settings isn’t recommended, you can use the machine. Set it to the delicate or handwash cycle and wash on cool. lay flat to dry, machine drying is not recommended. Your piece should not be ironed.
