Here at Lion Brand, we are dedicated to giving back through charity, from our Charity Connection to our Lion Brand Yarn Studio charity initiatives. We know that you love to craft for charity, too. That’s why we want to know which Lion Brand yarn you prefer for your charity projects. Select your favorite and hit the “submit” button below. I use Jamie because of its colors and 100% acrylic content means less likelihood of allergies.

Vanna’s Choice is one of the best, less-expensive yarns I’ve used. I LOVE it for charity because it comes in worsted weight (fast working projects), a variety of colors, and washes up GREAT! I’ve NEVER had it feel stiff or “acrylic-y” like some other acrylic yarns in the past. It’s a true treasure to make hats, mittens, scarves, booties, blankets (I could keep going here) for loved ones and those in need out of this FABULOUS yarn!!!!

Vanna’s Choice is a great 4-ply yarn, and I do make many projects with it. It is easy to find, being in several craft stores. There are sales and coupons almost every week.
My favorite type of yarn is 3-ply for baby blankies and hats (am I allowed to say BERNAT Softee on here?) but I have not found a LION Brand yarn I like as much as I did the discontinued JAMIE yarn.
Well, there is Vanna’s Glamour, which at $4.99 a small skein is quite pricey as a charity project, and I’ve never had anyone bring in a donation bag to our activity center.

I like Pound of Love for charity knitting. It’s nice and soft, machine washable and reasonably priced…

I use any kind of soft baby yarn to knit hats for newborns. I’ve tried using cheaper yarn, but the quality is often poor. Lion yarns are soft and well made, perfect for the newborn’s head. I can buy one skein and knit a large variety of hats. My favorites are the variegated yarns. It’s also fun to get an unusual color like orange or lime green.

I use acrylic yarns for men’s hats, so they can are wash & wear. I use Fun Fur on women’s hats and go a little crazy with designs and color combinations.

I like Pound of Love because it goes farther! The tiny hanks and small skeins of “designer” yarns are not conducive for making even a small-sized baby afghan, and they are way too expensive for my retirement budget.

I prefer to work with natural fibers. Acrylic and synthetics are too much like working with plastic. If I am going to put the work into it, I want good yarn, not synthetics.

Trellis and Incredible….BOTH of which have been discontinued….PLEASE, Lion Brand…bring back these yarns!

We do still have 8 colors of Incredible for sale on our site: http://www.lionbrand.com/yarns/incredible.htm Unfortunately, we do have to discontinue yarns at times so that we can continue to offer new yarns. These decisions are usually made based on sales. You may be able to find some Trellis on websites like Ravelry.com or eBay.

I love to use Lion Brand Pound of Love, my mom and I just donated 16 baby blankets to the local hospital the other day, they were thrilled (the blankets came out lovely)

Lion Brand cotton. Can’t use acrylic, but this comes out pretty soft when I make scarves that are all ribbing.

I really love Vanna’s Choice, it’s a soft acrylic, and washable too, if you’re going to do something for charity you’d want a washable yarn, something that will withstand wear and tear, but hands down my favorite is wool-ease. I mostly buy wool-ease and Vanna’s Choice, I’ve made sweaters using both, and I’ve also made scarves, hats, and gloves and mittens with wool-ease. For baby blankets I use Pound of Love, extremely soft, perfect for baby items. I usually find these yarns on sale at Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts or ACMoore.

I like the Vanna Choice because it is less expensive. We buy several skeins
because we make baby items for the hospitals, pregnancy centers,etc for
Newborns in Need, Inc. We buy the Pound of Love too. They are both great
to work with.

I like Vanna’s Choice for the scull caps I crochet for our soldiers overseas to wear under their helmets or being sent to the Hospitals for the soldiers who are recouperating…this small item gives them the feeling that someone back home is thinking about them…God Bless America and all our brave Men and Women…KJE
