Chainette: A Lofty New Luxury Yarn

Lion Brand recently added a lofty new yarn to their luxury LB Collection® line. Chainette is a blend of alpaca, wool, & polyamide with a chain-like construction. Instead of the more typical ply (smaller twisted strands that comprise the larger strand of yarn), Chainette has a mesh-like chain construction. Hence the name.

This yarn is oh-so lofty. It’s a classic CYC#4/Medium (worsted weight), but garments feel lighter than air. I’m currently working on a raglan sweater using Chainette and I can tell from the WIP that it will be warm without weighing me down.

Chainette is part of Lion Brand’s LB Collection®. This luxurious blend of 70% Baby Alpaca, 18% Virgin Wool, and 12% Polyamide is spun with a modern “chainette” construction. This allows for air to pass through, creating an extremely lightweight and soft yarn with a generous 131 yards per 50 gram ball. This CYC 4 yarn comes in a sophisticated palette of ten muted colors. The classic worsted gauge (four and a half stitches per inch) fits into myriad projects. You will be delighted at how soft and lightweight your knit and crochet designs will look and feel.
