October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In light of this, I wanted to share the story of the Needlework Group at Valencia Palms that recently contacted me looking for yarn to create afghans that will be donated to the shelter at Women in Distress in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. After researching the organization, I was motivated to send this group a yarn donation for such a worthy cause. Women in Distress of Broward County has a simple yet powerful mission, “To stop domestic violence abuse for everyone through intervention, education and advocacy.” The Needlework Group does their part by donating afghans to the emergency shelter. These blankets are placed on the beds before women arrive letting them know there are people who care about them. When the women are ready to leave, they can take the afghan with them.
I would like to personally thank the members of the Needlework Group at Valencia Palms for the work that they do and send my support to the women rising from unthinkable conditions and bettering their lives with help from the Women in Distress Organization.

I’d love to crochet some blankets for this wonderful cause. Im trying to learn to quilt so I could send quilts in the future, how does one get supplies donated to help with the cost? I’m on a fixed income of not very much money. I have the extra time and its actually something I can do! I look forward to hearing from you
Thanks~Kellye
