I’m Marie from Underground Crafter and I’m so excited to see what you’re working on for the Hummingbird Hat and Baby Bird Blanket Knit-a-Long!
If you’re just finding out about the KAL, you can get all of the details here. We’re using Lion Brand Heartland to make a hat and baby blanket. You can donate your versions to Knots of Love, an organization that works with crafters to distribute over 4,000 handmade hats and blankets to people suffering from traumatic hair loss and to infants in neonatal intensive care units every month, or you can keep, gift, or sell your projects, or donate them locally.
The second KAL pattern for the Baby Bird Blanket is now available here in preemie, stroller, and baby blanket sizes. You’ll need 1 skein of Heartland in each in your Color A and Color B for the preemie size, 2 skeins each in Color A and Color B for the stroller blanket size, and 3 skeins each in Color A and Color B for the baby blanket size. For my versions, I used 178 Pinnacles as Color A and 156 Guadalupe Mountains as Color B.
We’re about halfway through the KAL and there’ll be a fun surprise for you next week, but until then I wanted to share some more free hat patterns in Lion Brand Heartland that are suitable for donation to Knots of Love. I’ve included both crochet and knitting patterns, so you can work up a project in either craft. These patterns provide full coverage of the head, so they are perfect for people experiencing traumatic hair loss. All photos are copyright the designer or publisher and are used with permission.
Remember, if you plan to donate one of these hats to Knots of Love, be sure to follow the instructions on this page.
