One of the things I liked best about being out on the road with sales was meeting yarncrafters face to face. Now that I spend more time working with the Lion Brand Yarn Outlet here in New Jersey, it’s still a treat for me to talk to knitters and crocheters in person, and to see their faces light up when they see all our colorful yarns and supplies.
Last week several ladies from the Cedar Crest Retirement Community in Pompton Plains came out in dreary Monday morning rain to pay a visit to the Outlet. The ladies came in, shook off the weather and strolled through the rows and rows of vibrant yarns stocked on the shelves.
My favorite part of the visit was chatting with the ladies about what they were looking for and what kind of projects they like to make. A woman named Lois was admiring the detailed yarn art we have in the Outlet, and she said that she was excited to come for crafting inspiration, “I used to crochet a lot and I know you guys have a beautiful display so I thought I would be inspired.” I could tell by the smile on her face that she definitely was!
As we talked, I learned that many of them were picking out yarn for charity projects. Joyce C. said, “We send over whatever we knit, like blankets, throws, Afghans, hats and scarves.” Making charity projects is very popular in the spring and summer, and many organizations are seeking donations from handy crafters. If you’re interested in crafting for others, or run a charity group of your own, check out our Charity Connection online. From there you can pick out groups you’d like to donate too, or register a group to accept donations from others.
I was so glad that that I got to meet the ladies from Cedar Crest – they certainly brightened up my rainy morning. Each of them left smiling with bags filled with yarn and talking about their future projects. I hope to see them again soon, and hear about how all those projects are going!
