We’re thrilled to share: Kristen Mangus, of Goodknit Kisses, created a tutorial for loom knitters who love the Free Spirit Topper! You can find the knit pattern for this ruana-style wrap on our website, but you can visit Kristen’s blog to find the loom knit variation. Scarfie has a wonderful natural gradation to it, and is quite cozy. Read on for details, and to see Kristen’s video!
You can find the original Free Spirit Topper (Knit) here. Above, it’s pictured in Scarfie in Taupe/Charcoal, a brown and dark grey ombré. Kristen worked hers up in Mint/Silver, and we love that, too! You could choose any of the 19 Scarfie colorways, and the color variation will add an organic striping. Scarfie is a bulky yarn, but it’s soft, so it has a lovely drape for garments like this one. You’ll need just four skeins to finish up your topper.
If you’re fascinated by loom knitting, but haven’t found the right project to try, look no further! Click here to read Kristen’s blog, including a handy guide for determining how many pegs to cast on depending on your loom and yarn choices. Click here to see all the Scarfie colors to choose from.
Before you get started, you’ll need the following supplies:
Click on the video below, or open in a new window, and get ready to loom knit! Kristen shares all the steps and helpful tips, with great cues for when to pause to complete your next step. You won’t miss a detail, even if it’s your first time loom knitting. She’ll even take you through the seaming steps, to finish up your Free Spirit Topper perfectly.
We hope you’ll enjoy & learn a lot from this fabulous video. Let us know if you’ll be trying this variation of this ruana, and if you plan to try loom knitting for the first time!
