2011’s color of the year is Honeysuckle, according to leading color authority Pantone. They describe the color as a “dynamic reddish pink” that is “encouraging and uplifting”. With the terrible weather we’ve had on the East Coast, I think this bold color is great for adding a cheery pop of color to a winter’s day, such as with a handmade cowl or scarf. The color is also makes a great transition into spring and summer wardrobes. Want to add some Honeysuckle yarn to your collection? Here are just a few yarn suggestions.

From bottom left: LB Collection Cotton Bamboo in Hibiscus, Sock-Ease in Lollipop, LB Collection Superwash Merino in Peony, Baby Wool in Peony
What do you think of Pantone’s choice? Will you be adding Honeysuckle yarn to your stash? What do you think the color of the year should be?

You’re absolutely right; it’s Lollipop. Thanks for catching that! I’ve corrected the post.

i like it. it’s pretty. i would prefer this over the light pink they have for baby things. would make cute clothing and accessories for girls. or even a little something-something for me!

Honeysuckle in my part of Georgia have yellow blooms. So, to me, this is not honeysuckle in my book! I do think it is abeautiful shade of pink!

I like the idea of pink being the color of the year but the name is annoying me. Honeysuckle flowers are yellow and white, not pink.

Honeysuckle actually comes in a wide variety of shades, from white and yellow to pink and rich red-orange. They must have drawn their inspiration from the reddish-pink varietal.

Yes, this color does occur in that honeysuckles in other parts of the world. However, the majority of Honeysuckle varieties favor the orange-yellow-white spectrum. To call that honeysuckle is the equivalent of calling a blackish-red color rose, since some variety of roses do come in that shade.

I have the Homespun one, just trying to figure out what I want to do with it! LOVE the colors here though and am seriously hoping that next grandbaby is a girl so I can play with the pinks again!!! :o)

Love the color, but I’ve only seen yellow and white honeysuckles. I do love yellow.

It’s an OK color, but I would prefer something in a Carribean aqua line, something tropical and clear. Maybe I’m just craving some warmth right about now!

I love this color! Pink is my favorite and this shade is fabulous. I can’t wait to get my hands on the Homespun for a prayer shawl. My group always tries to keep several pink on hand.

Unfortunately i can never remember liking pink. Any pink. thhis is a color my 2 daughters will love. They may want to decorate their already very pink room with it. But I’m done with enduring pink for years for these two. I’d prefer a rich rust or perfectly shaded peachy biege. I’m glad others enjoy it tho,

Most of the honeysuckle around here (Missouri) is not pink or red but shades of yellow, white and cream. I have never really liked pinks but my small granddaughter is crazy about it.

I don’t that it’s “a cheery pop I color”. To me it is rather harsh. I do like various shades of pink, more muted usually. I recently knit a scarf that had a very bright, vibrant pink in it but it was mixed with other colors to tone it down a bit. Sorry, guess I’ll always be an earthtone girl myself!
Deb
I like all these shades of pink and I look good in pink so this makes me very happy.

I’ve always considered Honeysuckle to be a shade of yellow, due to it’s flowers–but, this is a pretty color–reminds me more of pink grapefruit, though.
Flamingogirl4961
Love these colors. I’m a flamingogirl, so pink is where it’s at.

I agree that I always think of honeysuckle as YELLOW.

I made a pullover for my baby girl purely for the love of color of Parfait.

I’m with the “honeysuckle is yellow” folks. This is a pretty pink for those with blue based colors. Those with yellow based colors won’t like it. I do like it and I am a summer pallet. Nice to see a pink I feel l would wear at 63.
