Fun with Post Stitches!

Post stitches are one of the easiest techniques to add to your crochet toolbox, once you’ve got the basic stitches down. The only difference between a front post or back post double crochet, and a standard double crochet, is where you insert the hook to make the stitch!

Here is the basic way front post and back post stitches work:

If you’re working right-handed:

And for left-handers:

So by combining the front post and back post hook insertion technique with the stitches you already know, you can create all sorts of new stitch patterns – from ribbed brims and cuffs to elaborate cabled sweaters and blanket! Below are a few patterns that use post stitches for you to practice on!
