We’re welcoming a new cotton-based yarn to the Lion Brand yarn line up!
Re-Up is made up of 85% recycled cotton with 15% polyester. A cotton-poly blend is a very common fiber mix to see. Open your wardrobe and you might find that your cotton tees and a blend of these. Why? Cotton is breathable, natural, and hypoallergenic, but has a few disadvantages. Because it is a natural fiber it isn’t as strong alone and it is also prone to shrinking or losing/changing shape when washed. The addition of polyester gives you a stronger yarn that will better hold up to wear and use and be less likely to shrink.
Since Re-Up is still primarily cotton, with just an added boost of poly, you can still treat it like a cotton yarn. It will work up into beautiful home accessories like dishtowels, kitchen rugs, and body scrubbers as well as sweaters and tops.
The machine wash and dry factor means that Re-Up is suited for projects you plan on getting good use from!
Cotton is beloved by knitters and crocheters for its absorbency, softness, and brightly saturated colors. Crafters love to use this natural fiber to make dishcloths, baby items, and craft projects. Re-Up, Lion Brand’s new recycled cotton, gives knitters and crocheters another reason to love working with cotton. It’s eco-friendly! It takes, on average, 20,000 liters of water to make 1 kilogram of cotton. By using one 70 gram ball of Re-Up you are saving 1,400 liters of water. So try Re-Up for your next cotton project: you’re going to love how it feels to work with and how it feels to help save the planet while doing the craft you love.

How about some patterns for this new yarn? I can’t wait! I’m allergic to wool or wool blends and frequently just pass up the pattern.

Sign me up! I’ll take some, I bet it would make great wash cloths and be super washable.

This is great news to see the addition of recycled yarn and the fact that the manufacturing process saves so much water. So many gorgeous bright colours too and I am hoping this yarn will eventually be available here in Australia.

Where is the yarn made?

This looks fantastic – anxious to see some patterns!

I’ve actually worked up this yarn – and love it! The colors are different than the other cottons available, quite soft and looks wonderful! I’ve started using it to make the chemo hats that a group of ours makes for patients undergoing therapy and dialysis. The women love them! Thank you for making a recycled product that protects our earth and is of such excellent quality!
