Be Sweater Weather-Ready with 12 Favorite Kits

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

It seems like it took ages this year, but we can finally say: sweater weather is here! In celebration of this, every crafter’s favorite season, we put together a dozen of our favorite kits for fall. Get ready for cooler weather by stitching up one of our 12 favorite kits, knit or crochet. Whether you’re looking to embrace the changing weather, or to keep the chill at bay, these patterns will do just the trick.

12 Favorite Kits for Sweater Weather Readiness

Plunge into Poncho Season

Take the plunge into poncho season with these two gorgeous kits. A poncho is the perfect for in-between weather, making both of these great transitional pieces. This will be a great alternative to your lightweight jacket, and wearing something you’ve made yourself is always compliment-inducing! The Ava Fringed Poncho (Crochet Kit) has been wildly popular with our crafters, in part because of its sizing options. Many ponchos come ‘one size fits all’, but not this beauty by Sewrella. Or for a neutral, wear-with-everything piece, check out the Light Alpaca Poncho Pattern (Crochet Kit) by Mama in a Stitch. This pattern defies trendiness by favoring clean lines and details that will make for a timeless piece.

Key Seasonal Accessories

Wraps

One of the key sweater weather accessories is the wrap. There are about a million ways personalize this versatile accessory, so it’s always best to keep a few on rotation in your closet. Of course, you’ll need one of the over-sized variety. These are ideal for travel, since you might be chilly on the plane (where it can double as a lapghan) or spend unexpected time outdoors. The Coast to Coast Wrap (Knit Kit) by Two of Wands is a perfect example. This pattern was inspired by the designers cross-country roadtrip, and each section denotes a different aspect of the American landscape.

You might also want to take a look at the Adirondack Wrap (Crochet Kit). This gorgeous piece takes up a bit less real estate, but makes up for size with color. It’s always great to have an accessory that can add a pop of color to your outfit, and this wrap by One Dog Woof offers many color options to make it your own. Plus, it’s crafted with our ever-popular Mandala Yarn, beloved by crafters for it’s colors and softness.

Afghans

Another important fall accessory that mustn’t be overlooked: the afghan. A fresh home accessory can reset your space for the new season, especially when it’s the time of year to cozy up. Both of these pieces are neutral enough to complement your current decor, while adding a fun texture to mix things up. The Love Triangles Afghan (Crochet Kit), by One Dog Woof, has a refreshing pop of yellow amidst the darker hues. But if you’re looking for something completely neutral, the Easy Heirloom Blanket (Knit Kit) by Mama in a Stitch would be your best option. It’s creamy grey-ish tones are the epitome of hygge. And if you’re thinking of crafting this as a gift, then it’ll definitely blend into anyone’s style!

Six Super Sweaters

Mount Tremper Sweater

Mount Tremper Sweater (Crochet Kit)

It wouldn’t be sweater weather without your new go-to pullover, so take a look at this pattern by Two of Wands. One of the best parts of fall is all the sophisticated knitwear, and the Mount Tremper Sweater (Crochet Kit) hits all the right notes. Because it’s worked up in a quick & easy half double crochet, this pattern is surprisingly simple, but it’s got loads of personality. It’s got a classic shape, including a stand-up turtleneck collar. And the stripes throughout, with their various widths, include the warm-toned ‘new’ neutral, dusty rose.

And Cardigans, Of Course

Any good fall list has to include a cardigan or two. But we had so many in mind, we just couldn’t choose!  One of our favorites is The Habitat Cardigan (Crochet Kit) by Make & Do Crew, which is perfectly cozy for cool fall nights. Plus, this accessible pattern is also designed to completely cover your tush, and who doesn’t love that! The Heartland Yarn it’s worked up in is deliciously squishy, and it comes in three neutral hues. We’re also big fans of the Granite Cardigan (Crochet Kit) by All About Ami. The New Basic 175 this pattern calls for is lighter-weight and has a beautiful drape, so it’s perfect for this longer cardi. Another excellent neutral cardigan is the Everyday Cardigan (Crochet Kit) made with Touch of Alpaca. The yarn is cozy, the pattern is accessible, and you’ll be reading for this sweater over and over.

If you’re looking to add a little color to your fall wardrobe, then check out the next two cardis on our list. While The Midtown Cardigan (Knit Kit) does come in a couple neutral options, we’re smitten with the mustard yellow. This slightly slouchy fit is endlessly comfortable, but the clean garter stitch and finished edges keep it looking polished. It will definitely be a new staple, not just for fall, but for year-round wear. Now, this last cardigan is perfect for newer crocheters looking to make their first garment. The Day Date Cardigan (Crochet Kit) is stitched as two large hexagons seamed together. Because of this design, you’ll be able to try it on as you go, and avoid shaping issues that can be a pain later on.

Are You Ready?

We hope this list will not only help you get your fall wardrobe in order, but also provide projects that are fun to craft in the cool weather, too. There’s nothing like cozying up at the end of a long day with a warm beverage, and soft project in your lap. What’s your favorite kind of project to craft in the fall? Have you made a new sweater this year to add to your outfit rotation? Let us know in the comments below whether you’re sweater weather-ready, or still you’re crafting your way there.

  • Day Date Cardigan (crochet kit)
Is it possible to see a picture of the back of the cardigan and can I just get the crochet pattern to see how it fits together.
    Thanks.

  • I just finished the Habitat Cardigan. It’s whips up quick and is easy even for beginners. I’m so proud of this cardigan that I’m considering making a second one.
