  • Something seems fishy here! I would think that the generation of *most* knitters would be from the conservative group. I, too, would vote for the McCain/Palin ticket (but I already cast my poll vote). Could it be possible someone spammed this poll to drive up the Obama percentage?! OK…it’s all in good fun, of coure!

    Hoozeg: “typical Republican” you say? obviously you don’t know many Republicans then. We don’t live our lives being negative toward people we can “trust”. Don’t judge us by the ad’s on TV. By the way, plenty on negative Democratic Ad’s out there too so what does that say?

  • Hoozieg, If you do your research you will see that national polls do not have Obama 16 points ahead of McCain. Many have him only 1% ahead. What parts of his policy are you particularly interested in? The part about spreading the wealth around does not particularly sit right with me. But, that’s what makes AMERICA a great country! We can have knitters and crocheters with their own opinions, and we are free to express them. One side will win, one side will loose and we’ll all have to live with it. Whichever way we vote, I hope we’ve all always been PROUD TO BE AMERICAN (assuming those of us voting on this Lion poll, are indeed, American. This is the internet, you know, which isn’t unique to only America).

  • There are plenty of negative ads out there from both sides. However, only one side has supporters who have yelled “kill him” at their rallies. Is this what we have come to? Personally, I find that frightening. Is there anything that will ever unite us as one nation with a common goal? I am not a Repbulican but, I am a Christian that does not condemn another person for their beliefs.

  • I am a conservative Democrat, but I am going to vote Republican this time. I can say with conviction though that the reason I am not voting Democrat is not because Obama is a Black man. You know it is a sad state of affairs that if someone is not voting Democrat that they are called racists. Are we living back in the 60’s again?

  • hmmmm, prolife? support our soldiers? God? morals? All of this republican? Someone needs a reality check and an education.

    Republican rule for 8 years and we’ve been at war for 7 of them–a war which kills innocent children. Where’s the prolife in that? I suppose it doesn’t matter because they are not Christian. SHAME on you!

    Our ecomomy is shot to heck to the point of homelessness and joblessness is at the highest rate since the depression of the 20’s.

    Our poor soldiers come back from the war broken mentally and/or physically and they are shoved on the back burner and ignored. Where is the support for our soldiers and where is the morality in that?

    If you have to be republican (yes, lower-case because I am thoroughly disgusted with them) to be a knitter or crochet I will never pick up my sticks again.

    And please leave God out of it. He did not create this mess–humans did.

    Oh, and if it matters, Obama/Biden are my choice because it’s time all this nonsense stops.

  • I can’t believe that people would actually believe that IF Palin were to become President, that ANYONE in the free world would want to deal with that ‘soccer mom’! She’d be just the face of the presidency while the good ‘ol boys continue to bring the country closer to total collapse.
    Think about it before you cast your vote!
    OBAMA is the new face, the breath of fresh-air we all want and so desperately need! The old ways just don’t work in this world anymore.

  • Alas, there’s really ‘nothing new under the sun’ is there?! Some of the ‘new’ ways people want to refer to are really ‘old ways’ if you go back and check out world history. The bottom line is: No candidate will solve all the problems of this country, and probably not even most of them. NEITHER of them is ‘messiah’, or ever will be. We all need to just get out there and vote according to whatever or scale of morals or political opinions are, and though I may not agree with the democratic point of view, I certainly respect the right to have the opinion of one. (BTW…at all rallies, there are weirdos who will call out nasty things about the other candidate. BOTH sides have encountered this. Why is all the focus only on one side?)

Even though my respect for McCain has greatly dimenished, I have to think that both candidates are patriotic and decent. I pity those of you who have such hateful feelings.

  • Why do people always assume that their stances are only held by those in their party? I think most of us are for a better place where children can live safely and don’t have to grow up to fight in unnecessary wars. We just sometimes disagree on how to reach these solutions. We’re all going to have to live with a new president on Nov. 4, so we might as well start looking for the good in each other rather than fighting over petty differences and imagined wrongs.

  • I vote for McCain/Palin because I believe in America and the right to either crochet or knit!! The country was doing pretty good until the Democrats took over Congress 2 years ago. The war is unfortunate, but we need to finish it and not let the deaths of so many patriotic soldiers be in vain.

    As for Obama, he sat for 20 YEARS and listened to someone who is suppose to be a man of God preach hatred toward our country, socializes with terrorists…and some of you want that anti-American as President? I shudder to think what will happen if he does win!

  • Even though I am not old enough to vote, I KNOW that McCain and Palin are EXTREMELY better. McCain knows how to deal with these things, and his views on the issues are true. Obama will turn this country into I-don’t-know what, but it will be bad. McCain ROCKS!

  • Wish I didn’t miss this vote, I would have voted McCain. I am a life long Dem, Now a PUMA! Obama stole the primary and my party has left me. McCain is a good man and Palin has much more experience than Obama. Don’t believe the hype, I did my research on Palin before she was picked and I have done my Obama research too. Palin wins, and McCain is a bi-partisan hero, He may be the best President we ever have!

  • I want to be able to keep on crocheting and knitting but wont be able to afford it if two lawyers are elected because I will be left with just change in my pocket! Honestly, I think the left liberal media wants us to think the lawyers will win so everyone will stay home thinking McCain/Palin don’t stand a chance anyway.

  • You know, Jill, I have thought the same thing myself about people feeling compelled to stay at home because they think their candidate doesn’t have a chance, or their vote won’t really count because their state’s electoral votes will most likely go to the other candidate. Hopefully we are all smarter than that and will vote anyway…for the candidate that each of us would think is best. I will vote McCain, even if the polls (which are often very inaccurate) show he’s the underdog.

  • I vote for McCain/Palin. The Democrats tax and tax and give it all away to people who are not even our responsibility–the illegals. The past two years with the Dems in control of Congress should have opened people’s eyes. Unfortunately, people want to blame Bush for things he has no control over–like passing bills, pork barrel, etc.

  • BTY, the Secret Service investigated the so called “kill him” and have reported that is absolutely false!!! I have heard many Obama supporters say very scary things when they call in on radio stations so please do not act like the Obama side is above being dispicable.

    I stopped supporting the Democrat party around 2003 because I noticed they consistently put themselves and the party before what is best for America. Not to mention endangering our troops with their irresponsible rethoric. The Democrats have been in control the last two years and that is when everything started falling apart. They are responsible for the economy now. The Democrats blocked the republicans from trying to reel in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac everytime! Bush tried 17 times, McCain at least 2 times and even former president Bill Clinton admitted that last month.

    So I am supporting Senator McCain(0$ in pork) and Gov. Palin(not a millionaire)
    I am for No More Lawyers in Politics and term limits on all politicians!

  • Wow, I am saddened by this poll. I visit this site because I love to knit and crochet. I do not really care about the political views of my fellow yarn crafters and quite honestly most of them scare me. I will vote on November 4 for the person I think will do the best job. I do not appreciate the snide remarks and the holier than thou attitude of some who have posted. I think we should simply stop talking politics and talk about starburst patterns and cable and lace and more pressing issues like when the new Lion Brand Yarn Studio will be opening!

  • You’re right Heather…we should not be attacking each other over politics. Calling each other stupid and lame for what we believe is not constructive. It’s up to each one us to believe or not believe what we are hearing from both campaigns or from the media. I choose not to participate in the mud slinging.

  • Oh and BTW – the polls I’ve seen and heard all put Obama ahead by 10-13 points which is darn close to this one. I Have been paying attention, I Have been doing my research. I watched all of the debates and news reports. I’ve looked things up on the internet to see what true and false. I do not tacitly believe what’s being told to us by the media and both campaigns – I think for myself.

  • It is very fishy that all these McCain people show up only after the results are published. The original poll is the only accurate one, as neither side knew which way it was going, so the response was real, not motivated by the disappointment of one group. That is why the votes are not counted until the voting place is closed in the real world.

  • I voted for Obama in northern Florida on Monday. Ethics and integrity need to reenter the world we live in on November 4. I voted for a ticket that I believe will do just that. I also believe that Obama will use his skills to unite the country and bring us back to the center.
    I encourage other Florida residents to vote for Obama/Biden. I am not sure where we will end up if McCain/Palen win. Ms Palen is not what we need at this point in time. She will be “played” by the Old Boys who have been in charge.

    I saw a homeless guy with a sign that read “Vote Obama, I need the money.” I laughed and went into the restaurant.

    In the restaurant I noted that my server had on an “Obama 08” tie,

    Bythe time the bill came I had decided not to tip the server. Instead I explained to him that I was applying the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. The waiter stood there in disbelief when I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone I deemed more in need of the money, the homeless dude outside. The server was not happy!

    As I left the restaurant, I gave the homeless dude the tip money and told him to thank the server inside as I’ve decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.
    By now you have realized that the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was very unhappy that I gave away the money he had earned even although the recipient deserved money more.

    So now you can see the actual redistribution of wealth is easier to accept in concept than in practical application!

  • I am not a liberal but I intend to vote for Obama. I beleive that a woman has the right to choose what happens to her body and, if two people of the same sex decide to marry that is between them and their God. As for not tipping the waiter because he supports Obama, equates to condeming someone because of their beliefs. But that too is between you and your God.

And considering that the other side has registered Mickey Mouse and the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys (in Nevada) to vote, and that 100 college students fraudulently faked an Ohio address and voted for Obama, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find that someone had spammed this poll. There are probably people who search the internet for polls doing just that. Also hoozieg, if the “research” you’ve done has been from the mainstream media, which donates money 10-1 in favor of Obama, do you think you’re really getting the facts, or just what they want you to believe?

  • Abigail…I found it ironic that an Obama supporter got angry when Obama’s plan was applied directly to him. I do not feel that it has anything to do with God, religion or condemning anyones belief.

At the middle school where I teach, teachers were complaining about how their own elementary age children were told not to put their names on their supplies, because they were being taken and used as community supplies. And I know some of these teachers are voting for Obama, whose programs are no different . . . What gives someone the right to reach into your pocket, take your money, and give it to someone else?

  • I am honestly scared of what will happen if Obama gets into office. Seeing his views on gun control makes my stomach physically churn. If responsible gun owner’s guns are taken away, it will leave the only guns illegally in the hands of criminals, and than we will be left defenseless.
    Also, I cannot fathom why anyone would want a leader of the country who supports partial birth abortions. If you don’t know what it entails, please research it. It is sickening. Please vote for good morals! God bless you and America!

  • I think Jesus wouldnt be happy with the republicans, you are like the pharisees, who only think that morals are important, and are not caring about your neighbors, so, do you really think its okay to kill other people, whatever happen to love your enemies???   • I still don’t get why anyone would want to vote for Obama. People, the country will go down the toilet! Jill, I love that story. It is so true. Why should people who work hard and earn their own money have it taken away and given to someone who won’t use it right?

  • I’m being criticized for NOT doing research and when I explain that I have done it, I’ve not done it in the right places!

    When I read that some of you are believing that Obama is going to take money from waiters to give to the homeless, promoting socialism, associating with a 70’s activist, and supporting partial birth abortions, I feel like you’re the ones not paying attention, not weighing both sides, finding out what the truth is, not making an informed decision.

    How many of you have watched ALL of the debates? I have. How many of you have Googled William Ayers to see what his story is? I have. I personally heard Obama say in a debate that he SUPPORTS a BAN on 3rd trimester abortions . . . IF there is a provision for the health of the mother. How many of you listened or watched in horror as two 17 yr old KIDS shot up a high school not 5 miles from where your daughter was in lock down at her elementary school?

    I grew up in the ’50s-’60s when women used coat hangers or back alley butchers to have abortions. Some died, some were so severely infected or scarred they were never able to have children. If you don’t want an abortion, I respect your right to choose, so don’t take away mine! I don’t agree with 3rd term abortions – that’s way too late! And I don’t think abortion should be used as birth control Teenagers are going to have sex…that’s a given. They need to be educated BEFORE they become active. Thanks to the schools they are getting some education on this. I’ve told my daughter since she was 14 that if she even thought about having sex, I would get her some form of birth control.

    I have not heard Obama say anything that even smells like socialism, much less reek of it. What is socialism? Read what it entails and then tell me what policies of Obama’s are socialist!

    When has he said he’s going take ALL guns away from private parties? Why does a college student NEED a weapon of war that allows him to shoot up a college campus? Do you want to protect HIS rights to have such deadly weapons? When you have a gun for self-defense, more than half of the time it is taken away from you and used against you. Or it is found by a child with disastrous results! Keep your guns for hunting, but let’s keep the ones used for mass destruction out of the hands of the public!

    “Redistributing the wealth” is not about actually taking money away from you and “giving” it away…it’s about who pays more taxes. (if you’d been doing your research, you would know this) We’re already “giving” it away to the government and those who are making more than $250,000 a year will take on more of that burden, taking some of the load off of us that don’t.

    I get real frustrated by those who choose to personally attack others for their beliefs. Just because someone is wearing a tie or t-shirt professing who they are voting for doesn’t give you the right to be offended or “teach them a lesson.” It’s called freedom of speech folks and isn’t that why we live in America? It’s time we respect the differing opinions of others and quit belittling, attacking, criticizing them without fully informing ourselves as best we can!

  • I don’t get it either Gabrielle! People should really be careful for what they HOPE for, they just might get more than they bargained for. Look what happened to Cuba when Fidel promised change the same way Barack is. Why do the rules not apply to Barack? He has not shown his real birth certificate, his school records, his medical records, or his tax records? I saw his certificate of live birth on his website but under Fathers Race it says “African”. Now we were not politically correct in 1961 so it would have said “Negro”. I want to see the original vault certificate. What is he hiding? How about the company Barack keeps? I would certinally not sit on a board with Bill Ayers let alone step foot in his house! Then there is Rezko, Rev. Wright, Louis Farrakon, Father Phlegar, Franklin Raines and on and on. And why did these people also want to seek Barack out as well? How does anyone put their blind faith in someone like that?

  • That’s a very good statement, Jill. Dems only see what they want to see and hear what they want to hear.

    Increasing the tax load on those who earn over $250,000 will close small businesses down (losing jobs), send some more businesses overseas (losing jobs), and the corporate giants will only pass the increase on to us. We’ll pay more for everything and the income tax break we get won’t even begin to cover it (I guess we can all discuss this again when we are waiting in the welfare line).

    Hoozieg, you were around for the 50’s and 60’s, but did you miss the 70’s when we had a Democratic President and Democratic-controlled Congress? Were you there in the 80’s when a Republican President accomplished so much even with a Democratic Congress? The 90’s wasn’t too bad under a Democratic President once the Republicans took over Congress in ’94. I can’t say it has been all that bad with President Bush until the Dems came back 2 years ago.

    I live in the Chicago area and I’m well aware of the “politics” that is practiced here. There is no way I would vote for Obama and what he supposedly stands for. We have mostly Democrats in our family who have seen for themselves what he stands for and they are not voting for him. I hope there are more out there that sees it too.

  • I have been receiving the LionBrand newsletter since 2002. Today I am canceling my subscription. My husband is a retired Army officer. This meant long separations and being what amounted to a single parent. That was my choice and I would gladly do it all over again. We are Democrats and we beleive in God and our country. I grew up in the south. I have seen riots and boycotts. We have thought our son to be open minded and fair. What I want most is for people to agree to disagree. I am assuming that we all want a safe and harmonious world for our children. Hoozieg I totally agree with you.

  • Hey Bree…Thank your husband for his service for me will you? I mean it!!! I don’t understand why you have to cancel because some of us don’t believe in the Democratic Party anymore. I am a homebound Disabled Veteran. I wish I could join the human race again and actually this is the first time I have ever expressed my feelings outside of my home in many years. I used to believe in the Democratic party! The Democratic Party has not done right by this American in the last 2 years! I do not believe in taxing more so the government can get bigger and spend more. I have to live on a budget so why doesn’t the government? I am not trying to be mean and I don’t even know if what that guy said in his article really happened but he made a good point. I don’t want somebody who makes more than 250,000 to give me their hard earned cash. Right now the Democrats want to take our 401k’s and decrease the military by 25%. YIKES!!! I have just had enough! Do we really want an unchecked Democratic Party running the United States of America?

  • Obviously, Jill, it is you who sees what you want to see and don’t admit it. To say Obama’s plan is to take money from one and give to another is preposterous and you obviously don’t understand the plan. For you to point a finger at me when you have blinders on is frankly just wrong! That goes for you too ckz3boyz. Some Democrats do see only what they want to, but so do some Republicans. Why can’t you just state your opinion and leave the personal attacks out of it. McCain/Palin can’t seem to do it, so why would I expect you to.

    As for Ayers, he participated in those activities 40 years ago! He is now a RESPECTED professor at the University of Illinois. Obama lived in his neighborhood and served on 2 committees with him – he barely knows him! I wouldn’t call that “pals,” would you? I have suspected drug dealers living next door to me and I have spoken to them – I don’t “pal around” with them. Would that make me incapable of performing the duties of my job? No! It wouldn’t.

    No I didn’t miss the 70’s, 80’s or 90’s. I have participated heavily in politics since I was in high school, campaigning for my chosen candidates. You can’t blame or praise either party for issues of those times. They represent those that elected them – If they aren’t pleased, incumbants won’t be re-elected. Presidents don’t control the vote, but they can veto bills – it’s called “balance of power.” No one party or person can take credit for anything. To say certain years were bad or good because of one party or another is extremely subjective – what may have been great years for me, may have been bad for you.

    Thank you Bree for your support and understanding. All I’d like to see is a respectful exchange of opinions and not this exchange of personal barbs.

  • I would never attempt to argue with anyone over issues like gun control or abortion, because I bet that the number of times someone has changed someone else’s mind through debate is probably less that 1%. I do think, however, hoozieg, that it is reasonable to expect anyone to have a healthy skepticism about what they hear from the media. As I pointed out, donating money 10-1 in favor of one candidate might cause some bias in reporting. It’s worth considering.

    Also, what people perceive as an attack depends a whole lot on whether they agree with what the person is saying. I don’t think any one side holds the majority market share on attacking (witness Luisa’s comment above saying Republicans don’t care about their neighbors and wouldn’t be approved of by Jesus). Also it doesn’t seem to me that comments like “How many of you have done X? I have . . . ” really qualify one for the Miss Congeniality award.

    And even if we leave out the word “socialism” (although Obama’s beliefs are on that spectrum, even if they may not be Socialism proper) I think people are just saying they object to his plan of taxing higher incomes at higher rates. No one I know falls into that tax category, and I still don’t think it’s fair. I also don’t think it’s going to ease the burden on me, because of what someone else said above. We already have the highest corporate tax rate in the world (a fact that also came out in the debates) and this has contributed to businesses moving overseas to low tax countries in Asia. And Mary, your response to the fact that people who are not legal residents of Ohio are fraudulently voting, was rather bothersome. To me, the only appropriate response is, “Wow, that’s crazy – that’s got to be stopped.” And finally, people can “agree to disagree” on the LionBrand website, but it doesn’t work in real life. Someone’s way is going win out.

  • Bree, I thank your husband for his service to our country and you for your sacrifices (I, too, was a military wife long ago). I wholeheartedly stand behind our troops and have sent care packages. This is one reason why, though I hate being the country all the others turn to when there is trouble and then hate us for taking charge, I side with Republicans.

    Please don’t blame Lion Brand for our opinions. Keep your subscription and skip any other web page they may have that you don’t like.

    Hoozieg, I have voted Democratic in the past, and if the right candidate comes along, I’ll do it again. But Obama is not the one. I don’t believe his explanations for his ties with questionable people (Ayers has never apologized for his acts of 40 years ago – a terrorist is a terrorist).

    Jill, I thank you for your service too. If it wasn’t for all of you putting your lives on the line and keeping our country free, we wouldn’t be on this website stating our opinions and bickering who is the best candidate. I really can’t express how deeply I feel towards all of our troops and their families for the sacrifices they make in the name of freedom.

    Also, I want to thank all of you for stating your opinions, Dems too! I have found the experience very interesting and actually enjoyed debating, and agreeing, with you. Even you, Hoozieg! I’m not trying to attack you personally, just Dems in general, you have been a great debater and I thank you and wish you well.

    You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

    This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

  • This is a shame. And it really must stop! Like some sick horror flick I’m drawn back here and continue to read the comments. The personal attacks have gotten way out of hand.

    This site is supposed to be about yarn crafting, not the self-righteous rantings of know it all Republicans who are so quick to point out that this is America land of the free but condemn those whose opinions differ from theirs. We are each entitled to our own opinions and should not be made to feel less than anyone else just because we do not share your beliefs. I like Hoozeig have done my own research and I have formed my own opinions. There are those who are so quick to say that they want government out of their lives but yet they feel it is okay to force all women to conform to their pro-life stance. If that works for you then so be it, but you should be human enough to realize that not everyone shares your beliefs. I plan on voting on the 4th because too many people before me fought long and hard and even given their lives so that I may have the right to vote and I refuse to take that for granted! So enough ranting and raving about what’s wrong with Obama and why McCain is better and how Palin is the best thing since sliced bread (I personally do not understand how anyone can have such a rigid pro-life stance but yet think it is perfectly fine to kill animals from hundreds of feet in the air — the poor animal doesn’t even have a chance. There is no reconciling those two positions. But then I’ve been told, “That’s Alaska”.) Just go out and vote on the 4th! And if you really cared about changing someone’s position you could try being a little more diplomatic.

  • Hoozieg, I saw your most recent post after I posted. I have read those questions before and that is exactly why I think this blog is so sad it just brings home the fact that racism is alive and kicking in this country. We can dress it up and call it something else because we don’t want to sound racist. But at the end of the day that’s what it comes down to. And the shame of it is the hypocrisy. I mean how is it possible that someone can say to you that they are not trying to attack you when they have questioned your intelligence and called you everything but a child of God? It boggles the mind. But keep the faith. I have a good feeling about this election! The times they are a changing!

  • I am truly saddened by the fact that there is so many racial slurs and remarks about racism in this presidential election. What saddens me even more is that it is the black race that seems to be the biggest racist as proven by the survey taken by all military personnel. The general consensus votes in favor of McCain 68% to Obama 23%. This is broken down by Army, Navy,Marines, etc. and then by enlisted and officers. The percentages stay within a few numbers of these percentages. That is, until they break it down even further to the Caucasian, black, hispanic, orential, etc. (check this out for yourself at http://www.militarytimes.com/static/projects/pages/081003_ep_2pp.pdf)

    It is at this point that the numbers reverse to Obama 68% to McCain 23%, which to me is a clear a blatant show of racism,but from the race that calls white people racist. As for myself, I would be considered caucasian and if someone asked me who I was voting for,it would be McCain and they would label me a racist. However, the only reason I would be voting for McCain is that I consider him the lesser of the evils running for President BUT, should Colin Powell or Condolesa Rice decide to run at the last minute, I would beyond a shadow of a doubt change my vote from McCain to Powell or Rice. Now, would I still be considered racist?

  • Just a clarification about Obama’s birth certificate: even in the 60’s it would have said African, not negro, because his father was actually African. Kenyan to be exact. Each candidate had to file with the Federal Election Commission who approved their eligibility to be a candidate. I’m sure both Obama and McCain presented the FEC with official copies of their birth certificates when they filed to become a presidential candidate. The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is comprised of 6 commissioners, appointed by the President and approved by the Senate. The FEC cannot have more than 3 members from one political party, so it is fair to call it bipartisan. You can learn more about the FEC at http://www.fec.gov.
