This is a guest post from Nicole:
My name is Nicole and I work in the sales department at Lion Brand. I have been with the company a little over a year. On February 13, I headed out to Minneapolis, MN for the National Knit-Out & Crochet event at the Mall of America, held on February 14 and 15. This was the Craft Yarn Council of America’s third Knit-Out at the Mall of America. Before that, the events were in New York City. This event was for everyone from beginners to experts and included three fashion shows, knit & crochet lessons, and numerous booths of different yarn and tool companies, organizations, craft book publishers, and knitting and crochet magazines.
This was my first time at the Mall of America and my first business trip—what a great first time! If you love shopping and rollercoasters, then this is the mall for you! There is every store that you can think of PLUS an entire amusement park in the middle.
On the morning of February 14, the Lion Brand team and I headed to the mall to open up our Lion Brand booth. We got there about a half-hour before the booth opened and there was already a line forming at the booth! It was amazing to see how many people came out just to see Lion Brand. We handed out free tote bags to customers, as well as catalogs and patterns. Both kids and adults were excited to take pictures with our mascot, the Lion. Our customers were excited to meet the people from Lion Brand and see our new yarns. They were thrilled to ask questions and learn about our yarns. Everyone was delightful while waiting in line. They were just so ecstatic to see Lion Brand.
We also had members of our team teaching lessons at the demo booths and we featured some of our newest dog sweaters and kids’ items in the fashion shows.
We handed out thousands of tote bags that weekend which means we had thousands of customers at our booth (even after we ran out of our tote bags we still had customers coming up to our booth)! This was truly an amazing experience. I enjoyed meeting our customers face to face and answering any questions they had about us. It was nice to meet the people who love and support our brand. I can’t wait for next year!

I was there! The Lion hugged me, I got my great Lion Brand bag, some totally terrific patterns, and felt some totally wonderful new yarns. That helps so much to get excited about new yarn — getting to actually feel it. Thanks!!

I also was at The Mall of America for the big National Knit-Out & Crochet event this Feburary. My daughter and I went in 2008 and planned for this years event right then.
We stood in line at every booth so we could see and learn and feel all the new yarns like the one made with bamboo. Get some new patterns and visit with those people who write the books and magazines for us.
I am a crocheter of 40 years but I learned new ways of doing things that will improve my work. I only do a tiny bit of knitting but that weekend I learned to purl. The small classes and fine teachers were wonderful. I bought myself 3 new books and had them signed by the authors. I will treasure them.
We met so many friendly people with the same intrests from all over the country.
We are already planning for next year.
