Take ZZ Twist Yarn for a Spin + 6 Patterns

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Have you tried our ZZ Twist Yarn? This new yarn was created with crocheters in mind, but it’s got qualities any crafter will love. What makes it so special is the twist. ZZ Twist is spun with a ‘Z’ twist, which happens to be the same direction yarn wraps around the crochet hook. Because of this unique feature, it’s been lauded by bloggers and designers for how easy it is to use. But knitters will also love this yarn for its wonderful drape and construction. For more details, plus six patterns, read on.

Try ZZ Twist

No matter what tool you use, ZZ Twist was created as a beautiful premium acrylic option for all crafters. This lightweight yarn is a CYC 4 Medium yarn, so it’ll be perfect for accessories, garments, and blankets, anything that needs a lovey drape. Because it’s 100% acrylic, you can machine wash & dry, without worrying about fussy fabric care. Each 3.5oz (100g) skein measures 246yd (225m), and there are 18 fun & modern colors to choose from. As one crafter says, “this yarn is silky and doesn’t split while working with it… it just glides beautifully on my hook.”

ZZ Twisted Patterns

One of the major benefits of the twist of this yarn, and the way it will work with your crochet hook, is the tightness of the stitches you’ll be able to create. You can see the amazing stitch definition in both of these patterns! On the left, the Chelsea Hat (Crochet) in Cranberry, obviously a perfect color for autumn. Then the St. German Beret (Crochet) in Bright Red. If you’re looking for a stylish hat pattern that isn’t your standard beanie, then this pattern is perfect for you.

The next two patterns are also great examples of ZZ Twist‘s stitch definition. They’re both accessories that would make wonderful transitional pieces for those cooler days in fall when it isn’t quite cold yet. The Alhambra Shawl (Crochet) definitely showcases the drape that’s possible with this yarn. Then there’s our San Diego Cowl (Crochet), another cute fall accessory. The open weave and pop of color will add a burst of style to your fall wardrobe.

For the knitters out there, we have a couple patterns so far, but there are more on the way soon. The Driftwood Shawl (Knit) is a totally unique pattern, with colorwork like you’ve never seen before. Even though it looks striking, it’s still just a Level 2 – Easy (Beginner+) pattern, so don’t be intimidated! Our second knit pattern is another cowl, the Trulia Cowl (Knit). The Peacock colorway is a gorgeous jewel tone that’s perfect for fall.

Stay tuned for more patterns for ZZ Twist, but in the meantime, we hope these will get you started! This yarn is inspiring crafters, especially crocheters, and we’d love to hear what you think. Tell us in the comments below if you’ve tried it, what you made, and what you thought!

  • I acquired a few skeins of ZZ Twist yarn and am very disappointed with it. It splits constantly, has an almost ‘greasy’ feel, and has the look and feel of crocheting with old fashioned white butcher’s string. It’s also a very thin yarn to be considered a 4 – I have thicker yarns that are marked a 3. I’ve crocheted for over 50 years, and seen many yarns come and go – hopefully this one goes soon…
