Let us know what you’ll be packing for your day in the sun!

5 Free Beach Tote Patterns

Pensacola Bag

Pensacola Bag (Crochet)

Grab your crochet hook and a couple skeins of our brand new tape yarn, and whip up the Pensacola Bag (Crochet)! You’ll be working with our new Rewind Yarn, and we suggest getting creative with your color choice. The yarn weight is CYC 5 Bulky, so you’ll fly through this relatively easy pattern. The cute stitch variation creates an occasional stripe, which gives this beach tote an elevated look. Plus, our Rewind Yarn ensures great stitch definition, so you’ll really see all the details! This bag is pretty enough to bring to the beach, and then carry with you for a night out.

4 Ball Market Bag

Another crochet pattern to try this summer is our 4 Ball Market Bag (Crochet). This multi-purpose bag would make a great beach tote. The pattern calls for Kitchen Cotton, which is durable & washable. It’ll hold up to all the elements! This bag features a long single strap, which one crafter comments: “sits on your shoulder just right!” In addition, the shape of the strap draws the mouth of your tote together, keeping all your gear safely inside. This bright blue color is fun for summer, but you could choose one of the other fun colors of Kitchen Cotton, too.

Striped Bubble Tote

If you’re game to try  color work, then check out our Striped Bubble Tote (Crochet)! This is a Level 3 Intermediate pattern, which is a fun challenge for newer crocheters. You’ll need a couple skeins of Vanna’s Choice. This pattern recommends Aqua and Mustard, which hearken to the sea & the sun, but you could choose any two contrasting colors. The bubble shape has room for all your beach must-haves, without dragging on the skinny straps.

Simple Crochet Tote

Our Simple Crochet Tote (Crochet) uses a CYC Weight 2 Fine yarn to create a lovely open weave. It’s a Level 4 Intermediate + pattern, so there are some slightly more advanced details at the strap and bottom of the bag. The strap and base of this tote feature denser stitches, to make sure your bag is more durable. While the pattern calls for Vanna’s Glamour in a now-discontinued color, you can certainly chose any of the other 8 fabulous colors. The open weave will make it easy to spot whatever you’re looking for.

Farmers Market Tote Pattern

Farmers Market Tote Pattern (Knit)

Although many bag patterns are designed for crocheters, this Farmers Market Tote Pattern (Knit) is one for the knitters! But since this adorable pattern calls for a discontinued fiber (Cotton-Ease), we’re happy to recommend some fresh alternatives. You could stick with easy-to-care-for cotton fibers, like Kitchen Cotton or 24/7 Cotton. Or, you could venture into color-striping territory with Shawl in a Ball or Shawl in a Cake! Either of these yarns would give your beach tote a completely different look, and there are so many fun color varieties. This roomy bag could fit your towel, a bottle of SPF, a beach read, in addition to any snacks or beverages you need to make it a perfect day in the sun.

Which Tote Will You Whip Up?

A beach tote is definitely the perfect summer accessory. Plus, you’ll be crafting an eco-friendly reusable alternative. If you’re planning to whip up one of these bags, then let us know in the comments below!
