This Friday is a special day for dog lovers — it’s Take Your Dog to Work Day! If your place of work allows it, consider bringing along your pup to hang out for the day.
Here at Lion Brand Yarn, we’re pretty fond of dogs — two in particular, in fact!
Barkley and Harold are two sweet peas that belong to our Art Director, Janeen, and our Yarn Development Coordinator, Gail.
Both have modeled a few of our dog patterns — Barkley even has a pattern named after him! The two of them come into the office a couple of times of month, but are eager to celebrate officially on Take Your Dog to Work Day.
Gail shared that having Harold in the office is “a benefit for everyone. The dogs get a lot of attention, and it helps us with office camaraderie.”
Janeen seconded this, saying that having her dog, Barkley, around is therapeutic. “They change the energy,” she added.
Whether they’re headed to the office with you or not, keep your doggie stylish with these six patterns just for dogs!

The World Amigurumi Exhibition is happening at Resobox, now through to February 28th, and I had the chance to stop by this past weekend.
Resobox is a Japanese cultural center in Long Island City and their mission is to share and celebrate Japanese influence in the arts. The World Amigurumi Exhibition features over 4,000 amigurumi contributed by over 140 artists from 32 different countries — and it’s something else.
Among my favorite finds – Star Wars Kewpie dolls, Frida Kahlo dolls and colorful ninjas!
I took my six year son and my husband and they both loved the show – there really is something for everyone – and because it’s all for sale, make plans to visit sooner rather than later!
p.s. If you’re going to be at Vogue Knitting Live in NYC this January, Resobox curators Takashi Ikezawa and Helen Moss are giving a FREE lecture on Sunday, January 18th at 11:15am–12:00 noon. I’m planning to be there – hope to see you too! I also understand that VKLive is hosting a pop-up shop – great news for those of you who can’t make it out to Queens.
Below is a selection of photos I took at the show – photography is encouraged at Resobox!
Congratulations to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie who just got married in France this week! In honor of the “Brangelina” marriage, we’re rounding up some of our previous wedding pattern posts which include great ideas for handmade wedding attire, gifts, decor, and more!
“After all these years, we have history – and when you have history with somebody, you’re friends in such a very real, deep way that there’s such a comfort, and an ease, and a deep love that comes from having been through quite a lot together.”
-Angelina Jolie (Elle Magazine)
Featured in the New York Times and around the world, David Babcock is the Guinness World Record holder for knitting the longest scarf (12 feet!) while running a marathon, which he did in Kansas City last October. Coupled with a great deal of skill and endurance, David credits his choice in using Lion Brand’s Hometown USA as a factor in his amazing accomplishment!
This November, David will run the NYC Marathon with over 125 “Athletes to End Alzheimer’s” to support the NYC Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association’s programs and services for care and a cure. He’ll be knitting for the duration of the marathon run and Lion Brand is proud to announce its support! David will use his fingers like knitting needles to work with anywhere from 10 to 16 stitches (see below for his finger knitting tutorials), using Lion Brand yarn, of course!
Since its creation in 2009, the Alzheimer’s Association’s NYC Marathon teams have raised well over $2 million. The Chapter offers free support and education to the more than half a million New York City residents who either have Alzheimer’s or a related dementia or are caring for someone who does. For more information about Alzheimer’s or dementia, the Alzheimer’s Associations’ programs and services, how to get involved in events, or how to donate or volunteer, call the Chapter’s 24-Hour Helpline at 800-272-3900. Trained professional staff is always on hand to offer support and information.
We’re proud to support David in his mission for many reasons. Any time we can bring knitting (or the art of crochet) to the public, we’re so pleased to do so because crafting with yarn promotes health and wellness, something that Lion Brand deeply supports. We’re also happy to lend a hand for a good cause. More than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050.
So let’s help David do his part – please make a donation.
Check back often for updates about the Knitting Runner and the NYC Marathon! We’ll be announcing opportunities for YOU to meet David this November and to learn finger knitting too.
Next week we’ll be leaving behind the NYC snow and cold to head to Santa Clara for the annual Stitches West show hosted by XRX, Inc – the company that produces Knitter’s Magazine. Lion Brand is a proud sponsor of Stitches West, and we’ll be selling our newest yarns like Fettuccini, Keppi, Heartland and LB Collection Silk at 20% off!
Make sure you stop by booth 414 and check us out! Print out this coupon below for 50% off your marketplace admission.
If you’re in New York City this week, be sure to stop by Macy’s in Herald Square for their special window in honor of New York Fashion Week. The window features selected pieces from “Organic Matter: Woven Artwork by Pratt Fashion” – a collaboration between designer Ralph Pucci and a selection of students from Pratt Institute. Lion Brand is proud to have provided the yarn used in the show and subsequent Macy’s window display.
Using Pucci’s signature gray mannequin as their muse, students designed and created handmade pieces faithful to Pucci’s preference for clean, simple, and minimal design.
They used a variety of our neutral-colored yarns, from Homespun® to Heartland to LB Collection® Pure Wool to many of our made in America yarns. Many of the students played with texture and combined various yarns to create magnificent and astounding works of art.
Personally, I’m always amazed at the many things you can do with yarn and these students have really taken knitwear fashion to another level. Below I’ve included a selection of pieces that were on display at Ralph Pucci International’s Gallery Nine last month.
Organic Matter: Woven Artwork by Pratt Fashion runs from February 6th to the 13th at Macy’s Herald Square window displays on Broadway between 34th and 35th streets. This is a traveling exhibition with future planned destinations to Miami and Dallas.
Come see us at Vogue Knitting Live NYC next weekend!! Stop by booth 518, say hi — and check out the great selection of yarns we’ll be carrying at 20% off, including new yarns Keppi, Unique, Heartland, and LB Collection Silk.
Additionally, we’ll be hosting signings from some of your favorite designers such as Franklin Habit, Lily Chin and Nicky Epstein!
