ICYMI: Tea with Shira & Brooklyn Boy Knits

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

We had a very special Tea with Shira this month, and we wanted to share, in case you missed it. Shira hosted local knitter & recent social media celebrity Brooklyn Boy Knits! Brooklyn Boy Louis Boria is always knitting on the train, and on this particular ride, American Idol & Broadway star Frenchie Davis snapped his picture. Friends were sending him screenshots, and in disbelief, he watched as followers and messages poured in. Plus an invite to Tea with Shira!

Tea with Shira

Louis sat down with Shira to share some tea and his favorite designs, and all the surprises  of the last few months!

Louis visited the Lion Brand Yarn Studio, where he did an interview with CBS, who called him a ‘Virtuoso with Yarn’: you can watch this Snapshot here. And here’s a full-length video of that interview. This talented young man has a way with needles, but he also has a way with words & a mission that is so engaging.

Where to catch Brooklyn Boy Knits now.

Whatever your favorite platform is, you can find Louis there! If you’re on Facebook, he has a growing Facebook page with all his latest news: find it here. Catch him on Twitter (@brklynboyknits), and see all his latest makings & doings on Instagram (@brooklynboyknits). If you’re interested in purchasing one of his designs, or commissioning something original, you can check out his Etsy shop – though it has been a bit depleted with all his recent popularity! Hang in tight, get in touch if you’d like him to make you something unique, and stay tuned – he has so much in store.

And what’s next for this Brooklyn Boy?

Message

Louis is thrilled to share his positive message with all these new listeners: forget who might be judging you. Who cares who’s watching? Follow your passion. The world will be better for it. He’s proud to be breaking down gender roles by embracing his crafty side. He trusts that whatever excellence is true to each of us, is right for us.

Mission

Up next, a superhero mission to craft in the New York City school system. A brilliant principal saw Louis’ positive message, and hit him up to come speak with their students. He’ll be sharing his story, speaking about following your creative passions, and then… time to knit! 20 knitters will join Louis for this big day, and they’ll be teaching students basic knitting skills. As we crafters know, working with fiber has brought so many gifts to our lives, imagine what it could do for these young folks? This sounds like the perfect way to cast on a lot of great habits.

Get in on the fun!

You can give Louis a follow on any of his platforms to keep up-to-date with his latest adventures! And if you’re feeling inspired, particularly about his upcoming project with students, feel free to shoot him an email via the contact page on his website to find out how you can lend a hand. If you’re looking to cast on with an inspired group of guys, join us for Men’s Night! One Thursday a month, resident yarn guru Darrin hosts an evening of crafting for gentlemen at our Manhattan Studio.  The next one is on our calendar for March 22nd.

Whether it’s yarn or yodeling, whatever your passion, follow it with your whole heart! You never know where it’ll take you, and Lion Brand will be with you every step of the way.
