It can be fun to learn the details about the lives of the A-Listers, but what do we love the most? That despite all appearances, they’re a lot like us. It’s hard to believe they would ever get bored. But they do spend a lot of time waiting around… on film sets, in trailers, for the next shot. And how to they spend their time? Crafting! Check out these 10 celebrity crafters, who are finding their way around a skein of yarn & dropping stitches, just like the rest of us.
This sweet moniker comes from Claire Danes, who delighted Stephen Colbert in an interview by sharing her knitting journey. From starting with a ribbed scarf, which was “rife with errors”, to working in the round, she’s hoping to cast on a sweater, maybe next season.
“Are you any good?” Stephen asks. “Well… I’m enthusiastic!”
And here she is on instagram, teaching some of the ladies on set to knit!
Joining the ranks of the Purl Gurls is Demi Lovato, songstress and multi-talented young woman, whose recent chart-topping hits include ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ and ‘Echame la Culpa’. Here she is working up something chunky while jet-setting around the world!
Supermodel Cara Delevingne casts on to stay calm during busy backstage moments. The pressures of the runway roll off her back, and she’ll no doubt bring her needles along on her Hollywood ride. It’s fun to see that she not only wears daring fashions during Fashion Week, she casts on bold colors, too!
Christina Hendricks of ‘Madmen’ fame is a knitting maven! She’ll be starring in her own show premiering next week (‘Good Girls’ on NBC), and we trust she relied on her stitches to stay stress-free during filming.
Sarah Jessica Parker is a well-known knitter, with many Pinterest images of her crafting on the set of ‘Sex and the City’. It looks like she’s kept up her hobby, based on a recent Instagram post!
Aretha Franklin has R.E.S.P.E.C.T. for yarn arts! A fan of crocheting, her favorite stitch is reported to be the pineapple stitch. Perhaps she whipped up the wrap she’s pictured wearing here?
Eva Longoria of ‘Desperate Housewives’ fame says she spends time in her trailer crocheting to stay focused. And with so many long hours filming that hit show, we can only imagine the projects she worked up! She’s moved on to more producing & directing these days, and no doubt needs a bit of stress relief.
Meryl Streep is perhaps the most notable crocheter on our list. And while we couldn’t find a photo of this elusive screen siren in action, we did find one of an amazing amigurumi Meryl created by craftyiscool.com!
This last crochet bae is a throwback, and a surprising one, at that! A crochet hook is the last accessory we’d expect to see in the hands of Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain, but there’s a crafty side to everyone.
Our all-time crochet bae is, of course, Vanna White. We’ve loved crafting with her over the years, and her yarns are some of the most beloved in the Lion Brand Yarn family.
