4 Celebrity Scarf & Cowl Trends To Try This Fall

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

It’s no secret that those looking to keep up with the fashion world are constantly looking to celebrities’ style to gain inspiration. We see celebrities in movies, on television shows, on stages performing, and in the press. With all this exposure, the pressure to be on-trend must be intense!  They, unlike us, have teams of stylists to make sure they show off the latest designer fashions, stay polished and camera-ready, and dress for the occasion. Think you can’t replicate the look at home? You can!

With fall and winter ahead of us, we’re thinking up ways to dress up our sweaters and coats. Here are 4 celebrity cold-weather trends to consider when selecting your next project.

When celebrities wear knit scarves, they tend to have subtle details, like small cables or neatly ribbed patterns. They also stick to neutral colors — like navy or grey — creating a simple, but elegant look. Sticking to a neutral hue will also make any detailed stitches stand out much more.

The Look: Classic Tweed

A long-time favorite for outerwear, tweed is always a classic choice for winter knits. Its woven look is often associated with collegiate and literary-inspired styles. A neutral blend of color makes it timeless; a colorful mix makes it modern. Knitting for the men in your life? It’s a great rugged look!

The Look: Chunky Cowls

Perhaps the most popular look for Hollywood starlets (and college-aged women across the country) is the chunky cowl, aka “infinity scarves.” These one-piece wonders can be worn a variety of ways, but most preferred (and warmest!) option is to wear it wrapped around twice. The trick here is to make it just long enough that it can be double-wrapped without being restricting. Feeling swallowed by your cowl? Not a good look or feel.

oversize

The Look: Oversized Scarves

(from left to right: TV personality & designer Lauren Conrad; singer Lenny Kravitz; model Cara Delvingne)

Yes, that’s Lenny Kravitz under that scarf/blanket. While Lenny may have gone overboard, he certainly looks comfy, which is the feeling that oversize scarves should bring. The key to keeping an oversized scarf from looking like you wrapped an afghan around you before you left the house is length, not width. Experiment with long fringe (like Lauren Conrad’s), or make one in a bright color (like Cara Delvingne’s.)

  • Yes! Great inspiration…I’m crocheting my scarf stash now trying to get a head start for winter. So excited!

  • I downloaded several of these patterns…scarves are great take-along projects, and where I live, a warm scarf and a jacket is sometimes all you need in the winter. Thanks for keeping up with these trends!
