Charity Crafting For Animals: Comfort for Critters

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Are you an animal lover that knits and/or crochets? If you are and have been looking for a way you can combine your loves and do a little good then you may be interested in Comfort for Critters.

This volunteer-run organization makes and distributes handmade blankets to shelter pets throughout the US. Currently, they are teamed up with over 200 shelters with options in every state. The goal is to provide pets a blanket for comfort as they await their forever homes. When they are adopted their blanket travels with them to their forever home giving them something familiar and secure in a new environment.

46,713 and counting!

As of August 21, 2017, Comfort for Critters has donated 46,713 blankets to animal shelters. Over a thousand were donated within the last month alone! Help keep this number skyrocketing upward by making a blanket for the cause. Donated blankets can be knit, crocheted, or sewn. There are no finished size guidelines. Critters will be matched with a blanket that is appropriately sized for them. Send your finished blankets to Comfort for Critters at 3 South 139 Sequoia Drive, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137

Yarn Suggestions

Lion Brand offers a few yarns that are perfect for comfort blankets. Machine washability is a must, which makes yarns made for babies and children a good place to start. Baby Soft and Ice Cream fall into the category. Ice Cream Big Scoop and Pound of Love are also a possibilities, with the added benefit that a single ball can make an entire baby-sized blanket. And then there is the popular Vanna’s Choice yarn.

No matter what yarn and pattern you choose, you will be making the life of a furry friend somewhere a little more welcoming and warm.
