I like to dye my yarn with tansy flowers. They work great fresh or dried and they grow along roadsides just about everywhere. I mordant in alum first so the color is permanent. My real love is saint johns wort because you can use one dye bath and get 4 colors from it but it takes so many flowers and is so time consuming and has to be used fresh its not as good as tansy, or queen annes lace for that matter. St johns wort is not like tansy which grows huge bunches of flowers and gives bright yellow color and you can over dye with a black bean cold soak to get some crazy greens. Tansy, she’s my girl!
