I came to yarn and crochet seven years ago through my best gal pal and partner-in-craft, Rebekah Bowers. I was a middle school teacher and soon to be new Mom. She had invited me over to visit, and as we talked, she was crocheting away. I became more interested in her hobby and asked if she could teach me. Not only did she teach me the basics, but she gifted me “How to Teach Yourself to Crochet Visually”, some yarn, and a set of hooks. I am forever grateful for both our friendship and the bond through all things crochet.
I enjoy making hats, neckwear, bags, and cup cozies.
I enjoy cables, puffs, the camel stitch, and the waistcoast stitch.
The first project I completed was a simple single crochet scarf. I have since learned that tension is important.
Quality. When I touched a skein of Vanna’s Choice compared to the yarn I had been using, it was a wow factor. I loved that acrylic yarn could feel so soft. I have been addicted to feeling all the LBY since. I also love the variety of yarns offered. LBY has the perfect skein available for any project.
When I began crocheting, I would sit at recess and work on the basic stitches. My students became interested, and before long there were 4 girls crocheting on the benches at recess time. That totally melted my heart. One girl went on to complete an entire blanket and entered it for our school Fine Art’s competition. She won first place in textiles. It taught me to remember that we are always being watched and to make sure our actions impact others for good.
