Night Lights Sweater: Behind the Scenes in our 2017 Fall/Winter Style Guide

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

We’re thrilled to feature a post by one of our favorite bloggers, Alexandra Tavel from Two of Wands! She’s here to tell us all about the Night Lights Sweater she designed for our new Fall/Winter Style Guide. You can find the crochet kit here!

It was such an honor to design two pieces for this first Style Guide with Lion Brand. This first piece, the Night Lights Sweater, was inspired by New York City – a place I called home for 12 years. The shape and stitch, composed of open squares and a simple construction without any shaping, is reminiscent of the grid of the city streets and the buildings that create the iconic landscape. Working each row to me felt like building a part of the garment, almost as if I was building a skyline.

Shawl in a Ball Yarn: Gorgeous Shimmery Neutrals

The Cleansing Quartz colorway of Shawl in a Ball is my absolute favorite. I used it for my Icicle Wrap pattern last fall, and I knew it would be perfect for this piece as well. For the Icicle Wrap the yarn almost evoked a kind of outer space / galaxy feeling. In this sweater, the hint of sparkle and the fading from a rust color to steel and black created a beautiful palette that reminded me of city lights turning on as the sun fades into the horizon.

Styling

I love a garment that can be worn in different ways, and I really wanted to showcase that with this garment. Because it is lightweight and drapey, there are so many things you can do with this piece. Whether it’s worn as a traditional sweater, wrapped around the shoulder or the waist, or even tied at the neck like a scarf or cowl, it’s the perfect piece to grab on your way out the door for any adventure. My favorite way to wear it is actually as a head wrap! This is an accessory that will be a staple in my fall (and probably spring!) wardrobe. You can pick up your Night Lights Sweater kit here!

  • love knitting.
have no crochet skills but would love to
learn. Please suggest a text which I may purchase to learn to crochet. My Mom was an
excellent crochet source but I never took advantage of her skill and knowlege.

  • where may I find the pattern shown
    here?

  • I like this pattern but would like to make it in another colorway. Will kits be offered in orther Shawl in a Ball colors, or the pattern be offered stand-alone?

  • Looks super easy.. And I love the color

  • Love the yarn, love the pattern, would love a similar pattern for knitters.
