Knit or Crochet: Simple Tops from our Fall/Winter Style Guide

Today we’re featuring two garments from our Fall/Winter Style Guide – knit and crochet versions of a relaxed top, each available exclusively as kits! Both the Simple Crochet Stitch Top and the Simple Knit Stitch Top are fashioned in a contemporary, unique shape in between a poncho and a sweater.

Unique Yet Simple Construction

This modular design is constructed in a “T-shape”, which is easy to work. You’re just knitting or crocheting rectangles and sewing them together in a clever way, making the finished designs look way more sophisticated than they actually are!

The garment is made in one piece, beginning at the lower back. The piece is folded and seamed following a diagram included in the kit. On the crochet top, an edging is then worked around the armholes and lower edge in slip stitch and single crochet.

Super Soft and Comfy in New Basic 175

Worked in New Basic 175, these super comfy tops feature a V-neck with a shawl collar to keep you cozy. We love this yarn so much! As a single spun worsted weight yarn, it has the rustic look of a traditional Icelandic yarn, but it’s machine washable, lightweight, and incredibly soft.

The Simple Crochet Stitch top is shown in Ice, a gorgeous pale blue with just a hint of color. The Simple Knit Stitch Top is offered in Slate, a sophisticated medium blue-grey.

The knitted variation is primarily stockinette stitch – a great project to work on while watching your favorite TV show! The rolled neckline takes advantage of the natural curl of stockinette stitch. The center front features the crisp detail of a defined vertical line, created by sewing the front seam on the outside of the garment rather than on the inside.

We’re looking forward to hosting a Crochet-Along here on the blog for the Simple Crochet Stitch Top! The crochet variation features lacy openings staggered in vertical lines all over the garment, which are echoed in the more closely spaced holes running up and down the center.

We’ll walk you through the steps of crocheting the top, with lots of photos and tips. Kits for this top are available in three colors: Ice (the pale blue pictured here), Thyme (a beautiful soft green), and Cream.
