You Can Play with Your Food!

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

A few weeks ago, we posted some photos of the food-inspired crochet art of textile artist Kate Jenkins on our Facebook page, and it started quite a conversation! Lots of people found these projects to be super fun; in addition to being decorative, some have also mentioned how great they are for babies and children’s toys. So, in honor Memorial Day and the kicking off of BBQ season, I thought it would only be appropriate to share some of my favorite knit and crochet food patterns!

Crochet Eggplant  Crochet Apple Crochet Corn on the Cob

Knit and Crochet Berry Topped Cupcakes  Crochet Tea Cup Pincushion  Crochet Donuts

You can also find all sorts of fun, free food-inspired patterns on Ravelry. What do you think of these projects? Would you ever knit or crochet something that looks like food? If you already have, are these creations used as playthings, pet toys, or decorations? We’d love to hear from you!

  • I’ve never made any crocheted food. But I really would love to do so. Cool items.

  • These are awesome! We just bought a play kitchen for our 2.5 year old daughter! It will be great to make her play food!!! Thank you so much!!!

  • These look good, but where are the knit versions?

    • Hi there, although we don’t have these exact patterns in knitted versions, there are some great knitted food patterns out there. Check out these options on Ravelry.com (a yarn community that indexes both free and paid patterns from many different sources): http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/search#query=knit food

      • You so often have similar, but not exact patterns in both knit and crochet, I was very surprised that this set were all crocheted.

  • Right after I first saw this post, I received the June issue of Smithsonian Magazine. The cover was full of crocheted food, and loudly proclaimed that this is THE FOOD ISSUE.
