Phoenix Wrap, Part 2, and an Interview with Sue Rock

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

This is Marie from Underground Crafter. I’m excited to be back for the third part of the Phoenix Wrap Crochet-a-Long, a free mystery CAL to make a rectangular shawl in Lion Brand Jeans, one of my favorite soft yarns. If you’re just joining us, you can read the announcement here and get a roundup of 13 more free crochet patterns for women’s accessories and garments in Jeans here.

Phoenix Wrap Crochet-a-Long with Underground Crafter and Lion Brand

This CAL was inspired by the work of Sue Rock Originals Everyone, Inc., a local New York City charity that distributes handmade garments and accessories to domestic violence survivors. I had the chance to interview Sue Rock, the founder, recently, and she shared why handmade donations are so important for domestic violence survivors, more information about how to donate, and information for New York area crafters who would like to volunteer or get more involved. You can listen to the interview in your browser below, or you can download the audio version here.

I hope you are feeling as inspired by that interview as I am! Even if you plan to keep (or sell, or gift) your version of the Phoenix Wrap, I think Sue has shared some words to get us all ready to pick up our hooks and create.

Before I share a sneak peek of part 2 of the Phoenix Shawl, I wanted to remind you that if you share a completed project picture of your Phoenix Wrap here by August 31, 2018, you can enter to win one of these four great prizes: 6 skeins of Lion Brand Jeans in your choice of colors; a hand turned wooden crochet hook by ArtFunctionalWood, a ceramic yarn bowl in your choice of color by Creativity Happens, or a set of Lazadas blocking wires.

Now, on to today’s sneak peek! Last week, you made the center panel of the Phoenix Wrap, and this week you will get started on the side panels. These panels use a flat shell stitch. Here’s a preview. You can get part 2 of the pattern for the side panels (with more photos) here.

Don’t forget to join in the Phoenix Wrap Crochet-a-Long!

I’ll be back on August 22 to share the final piece of the pattern.
