Happy 4 July

July 4th is a great time of celebration where we recognize the Independence of the United States from Great Britain in 1776.  Now, we’ve all come to appreciate this holiday as a great day to turn on the grill, hit the picnic tables, and spend quality time with loved ones. And who can forget the fireworks!

Since there are so many BBQs and parties happening this day, I thought it’d be fun to share some easy projects for festive red, white, and blue decor to add to your celebration. Wow your guests with DIY yarn craft projects that requires no crochet hooks or knitting needles.  Get the family involved as well, this is a great project for the kids who will be out of school!

Below, you’ll find a tutorial for the yarn wrapped stars I used on my wreath, as well as some other quick and simple crafts.  These projects only take a few minutes to complete.yarn wrapped stars tutorial

Glitter Eyelash Star Wreath I wrapped a styrofoam core wreath with Martha Stewart CraftsTM/MCGlitter Eyelash in Garnet, and then attached my various stars wrapped with Vanna’s Glamour for a wreath that’s sure to be welcoming to guests. For the final touch, I printed a little “banner” and attached it to the back of the wreath.
Yarn Wrapped Ball Take a styrofoam core ball that can easily be found at a local craft store and wrap it in yarn. I wrapped my ball holding 3 strands of Vanna’s Glamour in Ruby Red, Sapphire and Diamond together. Since the yarn attaches to the styrofoam easily, you don’t even need to glue anything.  I pinned the strands into the ball in a loop shape once I was done to make it easy for hanging or stringing.  Hang these balls from trees or windows for an even more festive touch to your event.
firework pom poms If you don’t want to bother with wrapping foam balls, use the traditional method of creating pom poms! Add them to toothpicks for food toppers, use them as tassels, attach them to a stick to create a child friendly version of firework sparklers.

Share your July 4th plans with us!  Going to any BBQs? Will you be crafting?
